For your STEM curriculum.
Your students will learn how to make gyotaku (that’s Japanese for “fish print”) by using a realistic fish replica made of rubber, rolling it with block printing ink, and applying it to paper. Use the fish to create unique greeting cards and stationery, framed prints for hanging, wrapping paper - the ideas are endless! Experiment with bright colors and various media, such as tempera, acrylic, screen inks, and more. An excellent interdisciplinary project, it will stimulate discussion about Japanese culture, different species of fish, other types of nature printing, fish anatomy, and more. Includes one each of the freshwater drum (left side), starfish, blue gill, perch, carp, flounder, trout, skate, and turtle.
